(Clinical Repository to Understand, Study, and Heal Myelodysplastic Syndrome)
THE PROBLEM: Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a complicated disease and we do not have a good handle on how to best diagnose and treat it. Doctors and patients need answers as soon as possible and CRUSH!!MDS has been designed to speed up the process of getting these answers.
WHAT IS CRUSH!!MDS: CRUSH!!MDS is a comprehensive clinical database initiated by Gail J. Roboz, M.D., Director of the Leukemia Program at Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian (part of the Meyer Cancer Center, on behalf of the MDS Clinical Research Consortium. To cure MDS, we need to know as much as possible about WHAT IS HAPPENING with MDS patients. How were you diagnosed? What did the tests show? What treatment did you get? Is the treatment working? The six institutions of the MDS Clinical Research Consortium have agreed to contribute information about all of their myelodysplastic syndrome patients into this database, so that we can learn as much as possible about as many patients as possible, as quickly as possible! And, we hope to include many other institutions and doctors as participants in the future.
ALSO, do not THROW SCIENCE IN THE GARBAGE! Every time a patient has a blood test or bone marrow test at one of our centers, we will have the opportunity to SAVE some of it and see if further testing in our research laboratories could help scientists and, hopefully, help YOU learn more about your disease.
